Detangle

Detangling your raw hair extensions before you shampoo and condition your hair will greatly reduce tangling once moisture is added to the hair. Spray the hair until it is damp with 3 parts lukewarm water and 1 part conditioner and use a wide tooth comb to detangle from the tip working in an upward motion until you get to the weft. Also use this same motion when brushing or combing the hair to prevent tangling.

Shampoo & Condition

Shampoo: Treat your raw hair extensions as you would your own hair by using a mild alcohol free and sulphate free shampoo every one to two weeks. Carefully wash your raw hair with lukewarm water and avoid twisting or rubbing the hair to prevent the hair from tangling. Instead, smooth the shampoo down the hair from the top down to the tip.

Condition: Be sure to use a conditioner straight after to restore moisture and shine. Co-wash (washing with conditioner instead of shampoo) at least once every 1-2 weeks to keep your extensions revived and healthy. Use the same smoothing motion to apply the conditioner, and rinse out.

Drying

Air drying is highly recommended for all types of hair after washing and conditioning in order to keep the use of heat to a minimum. However, for our wavy and curly textures we recommend using a diffuser attachment with a blow dryer on low-medium heat for added texture definition. Make sure to prep the hair with a heat protecting spray/serum.

Products & Styling

Don’t use too much product: Good quality raw hair extensions from FabHairco do not need a lot of product, so try not to overload the hair in between washes with oils and serums as this will eventually cause product build up and weigh the hair down, creating a lifeless dull look.  A pea sized amount of Moroccan Argan Oil or alcohol free serum every now and again is more than enough to restore your locks back to life.

Alcohol free: Use alcohol free serums/products on your raw hair extensions. This will prevent the hair from drying out, tangling and becoming frizzy.

Use little to no heat: FabHairco raw hair can withstand heat from most quality heat styling products. However, try to use as little heat as possible when wearing hair extensions, and make sure you use a heat protector if you do, as excessive use of heat can damage the hair and shorten its lifespan.  Styling raw hair extensions is incredibly easy and can be done in a number of versatile ways.  Using no heat will always be much more beneficial and can still give you beautiful results.  Bendy rollers, pin curls and bantu knots create luscious and voluminous curls and waves, and don’t take up much time to do.

Daily & Nightly Care

Wrap your hair: Wrap your raw hair at night with a satin/silk scarf to ensure that when you unravel your locks the next morning they are tangle free, full of body and friction-free. This is a great time to style your hair without heat, and with minimum effort, by combing/brushing out the hair into 2-6 sections and twisting them into bantu knots, or using bendy rollers to create flawless waves/curls.

Pay attention to your nape: Always make sure your nape area is well looked after, especially if you have longer lengths in your hair extensions.  Lightly combing/brushing the nape area once or twice a day will reduce this.

Curly Hair Care

Curly hair care: For curly hair textures, the same tips still apply, however extra care is needed as this hair texture can tangle and become dry a lot easier than wavy and straight textures if it is not maintained properly. To reduce frizz do not comb or brush the hair out when dry. Instead finger comb the hair if needed to separate the curls. Cater to your hair type when using products for curly textures – they should have keywords in the description such as ‘conditioning’ and ‘moisturising’.

Daily care for curly hair: An extra way to keep your curly hair extensions moisturised in between washes is to mix some leave-in conditioner with some water in a spray bottle. Use this to spritz your hair in the mornings, at night, or when styling your hair to keep your curls fresh.
